Americana!!!

November 4, 2012

Due to my handsome American boyfriend moving and living with me, I am gearing up for my first ever Thanksgiving. As it was Halloween as well, it was definitely time to rise to the baking challenge…………can you tell what it is yet?

ahhhhh it has that ‘new pumpkin’ smell….did I mention I love October?

Whipping up some quick sweet shortcrust pastry.

So…there are all these fancy ways of decorating pumpkins now…but nothing screams Halloween like the traditional triangle zigzag formula. BACK TO WORK.

Roasted, blended pumpkin drying out

This next stage involves removing any trace of pumpkin taste from the pie…I used maple syrup, cinnamon, mixed spice and ginger….and evaporated milk with two eggs.

What’s going down here

Aha! A pumpkin….or should we say ‘Jack o Lantern’ pie. I enjoyed mine with a cold bottle of Ol’ Jeremiah Weed’s Sippin’ Brew. America…this one’s for you.

It’s Snow Joke….ahahahaha

October 25, 2012

Hey there cake fanciers and biscuit lovers….it’s time to develop Christmas recipes for a little project I have planned.

Here’s what we came up with…ginger and chocolate cake pops. Due to being broker than a smashed teapot I don’t have the best tools for the job, so we improvised slightly.

I made a ginger cake with treacle and syrup, and some orange/chocolate buttercream. Let the cake cool then crumble it and mix with the buttercream until you can form the mixture into little balls. Then dip a lollipop stick into some melted chocolate, then plunge into halfway through the balls (bahahaha), and put in the fridge to set. Once they cool, plunge the WHOLE thing into chocolate.

The dark ones are chocolate  and ginger, the lighter are orange buttercream and ginger.

You have to design your own way to try them, I used a slotted breadboard because I am nothing if not professional.

The next part is up to you, I went for Snowmen and Christmas Puddings, with a sneaky Halloween design as well…need to neaten it up a bit, but not bad for a first attempt!

Just add small royal icing scarf!

And here is my charming American’s contribution, he is so good at design<3 He has just bought me a gigantic pumpkin, so I am going to undertake an American pumpkin pie…eek!

HALLOWEEN baking to come soon, it’s my favourite day of the year!
